Escort Car Club Sprints

Race day again for the Model-A, no-one sends me pictures so I haven't any to put up. The day was cold, under 10 degrees, with freezing showers. I did 2m 19sec in practice on a wet track, so the car was going well and I was expecting to better my best time of 2m 17s. But the rain came down as I went out in the first sprint, man it stings your face at 100 kmh with an open-face helmet! Nowhere to hide!

Then the engine coughed and spluttered and I pulled in to the pits, thinking water had got in to the electrics. It has turned out since that the choke butterfly valve had the two screws drop out that hold it to the shaft, falling down and choking one carb. I pulled off the manifold and found the two screws, so that was lucky. They are solidly loctited in now.

Fine summer days are good, I think!
