Mt Wellington

A lot is happening around Mt Wellington. I took a busload of Auckland City planners up to the top a week ago and found it quite interesting. We went back up today to take a few pics.

The quarry is finished with being a source of rock, and is being subdivided for housing. College Hill road has been rebuilt into 4 lanes to service the new area.

There is a big crater on Mt Wellington, the volcano was last active about 10,000 years ago, and is the youngest other than Rangitoto. This is a 3-D picture, click on it, then put a piece of card between your nose and the centre of the picture. Once the tree becomes one tree, you can see the 3-D view.

The day was very clear, this view looks east over Half-Moon Bay towards Waiheke.

Looking South, you can see both the east coast directly in front, and the west coast Manukau Harbour only a few miles away.

This view is North-West, towards the city.

Looks like Peanut Butter

It is Woolworths SR house brand. Looks nice enough.

It has a barcode starting with 94, as NZ products do. It looks like it was made in either NZ or Australia, but it's not. Read on.

I wonder what is really in it? Cardboard, pollution, unpasteurised yak's milk? Do the production staff have health standards? Do they smoke outside? Apparently OAK tinned peaches are also from China.

Ardmore visit

We had a walk around Ardmore today, spotting where the old buildings were from the Training College and Engineering School, found the cafe, nice coffee, great views near the runway, open 7 days from 8am. Took a few shots of the plane activity, the sun was low and in the wrong place but here they are:

A Beech Staggerwing D17S ZK-AMU.

A solitary Harvard doing circuits and bumps.

The Warbirds Dakota has had a new coat of paint!

And a Hawker Fury replica. A better picture on www.airliners.net.

Where's my boss? Moscow

Some interesting reading on the www.centennialraiders.org.nz site as the convoy has reached Moscow.

Here's Greg Paul in Moscow. His team are keeping the buses moving at home.
