Mt Wellington

A lot is happening around Mt Wellington. I took a busload of Auckland City planners up to the top a week ago and found it quite interesting. We went back up today to take a few pics.

The quarry is finished with being a source of rock, and is being subdivided for housing. College Hill road has been rebuilt into 4 lanes to service the new area.

There is a big crater on Mt Wellington, the volcano was last active about 10,000 years ago, and is the youngest other than Rangitoto. This is a 3-D picture, click on it, then put a piece of card between your nose and the centre of the picture. Once the tree becomes one tree, you can see the 3-D view.

The day was very clear, this view looks east over Half-Moon Bay towards Waiheke.

Looking South, you can see both the east coast directly in front, and the west coast Manukau Harbour only a few miles away.

This view is North-West, towards the city.
