Grandkids to the Beach
We are looking after the 3 kids while Kristina has an operation. A day at Okahu Bay seemed a good idea.
Sprats were being caught at Orakei Wharf.

Hawkes Bay hillclimbs
We had a great weekend running Ugly Brute for the first time with the Vintage car club, it came first on Saturday at Te Onepu in the Vintage class, and second at Pukeora on Sunday. There were about 25 vintage & veteran cars in various classes, and about 30 or 40 hot saloons running with the Hawkes Bay Car Club.
This is the hill climb at Te Onepu, about 15km South of Hastings on Highway 2.
I had a ride in this new SS100 Special built by Allan Blundell, first time out, with a pre-war 2.5 litre engine and all built exactly as original except no guards and a different rear end.
Star of the day was this 1906 Darracq, with a 14 litre engine. Good thing it ran in the Veteran class, as it was 20 seconds quicker up the hill than me! The car is just back from Goodwood Festival of Speed 2006, and it won the first French Grand Prix 100 years ago.
A 1928 Chrysler 6, and a 1913 Model T that didn't compete.
An Austin 7 Special and a Morgan 3-wheeler.
This car is a replica built in 1500 hours from a rolling chassis. Here's a general view of the vintage 'paddock'.

Warbirds Open Day (Battle of Britain Day)
What a great place for an aircraft nut with a camera. Just don't walk in front of the planes while they are starting, please, and go over by the runway to watch the take-off - sure, no problem.
Covers are removed, pilots & passengers all aboard.
Taxi past the spectators and take off 3-abreast if you can.
I understand from a plane spotter that this is a Cessna Jet Trainer. Westpac's chopper is always around a show, looking for a donation.
This Metroliner came in after the take-offs.
